How to choose eco-friendly cosmetic and fragrance containers

The first step to improving your environmental impact is to take a look at the packaging you’re using. What’s it made of, and where’s it from? How does this effect the various stages of the supply chain? And, most importantly, does it meet the needs and expectations of your customers?

Mono PP (Polypropylene)

Since it’s made from a single material, Mono PP is very easy to recycle. This means that instead of virgin plastics, you can benefit from recycled ones, resulting in lower costs and reducing the environmental impact of creating new materials.

PCR (Post Consumer Recycled)

Made from recycled plastics, PCR is a great option to perpetuate the use of the plastic we already have in circulation. You’ll find no loss in quality here, and it’s just as easy to recycle as other options!

Aluminium

Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, and 75% of all the aluminium ever produced is still in use today. While it’s not quite as flexible as our plastic options, using recycled aluminium can still provide a quality finish with lower environmental impact.

Glass

Depending on what it’s been used for, glass can be easily recycled with a high reclamation rate. For a premium product with that luxury feel, glass is a great choice that doesn’t that much to renew!

Rigid vs flexible receptacles

Whether or not your container is flexible can actually make a big impact on its sustainability. Rigid materials like glass, aluminium, and hard plastics can seem durable, but are often prone to dents and breakage. Plus, since they can’t be compacted, they’re harder to store and transport.

Flexible packing, like Mono PP sachets and pouches, offers great shelf presence and easier distribution, meaning you can offer a high-quality product at lower costs.

The environmental benefits of choosing… plastic?

A surprise to some (but not to us!), plastic is actually one of the most sustainable materials for liquid cosmetic and fragrance receptacles. It is…

  • LightweightThis means it uses less fuel to transport, and costs less as well.
  • FlexibleAble to be squished, compressed, and jammed into tight spaces, flexible plastic packaging takes up less space in both storage and transit, meaning you can keep and ship more for less!
  • RecyclableWhether kerbside, supermarket, or via specialists like Teracycle, plastic packaging can keep offering benefits for many recycling cycles.
  • Lower energyWhile materials like aluminium are great in terms of their recyclability, the low energy requirements of the plastic recycling process can make it an even more sustainable option.
  • ShatterproofFlexible (and to an extent, rigid) plastics are shatterproof, meaning there’ll be less wastage from hard knocks when being shipped or displayed.
  • ReusableSpouted pouches, many bottles, and plenty of other plastic receptacles offer refilling capabilities, meaning you don’t even need to recycle them before they can be used again!

Whether or not you choose to ‘go plastic’, we fill receptacles of all kinds for both fragrances and cosmetics, using our extensive experience to ensure you get a quality, timely, and friendly service throughout.

We can even provide insight on which options could be best for your product, helping you receive the best results.
