How to Drive Sales with Packaging for Perfumes

Your perfume packaging matters more than your think. Thoughtful design choices are a massive influence on consumers, enhancing your brand perception and driving fragrance sales. As part of your filling and fulfilment process, taking a good look at what packaging options are available is vital to achieving the greatest impact with your products.

At Fillcon, we provide a streamlined perfume formulation and filling service that helps you get your scent on the shelves. In this article, we’ll discuss the critical role of packaging and how it can revolutionise customer experiences.

Got a fragrance you need packing? Get in touch.

The Role of Packaging in Shaping Consumer Choices

When a customer comes across your product, the first thing they experience isn’t its quality or benefits. It’s not usually what it smells like (unless they have a free sample). It’s not the impact it has on their lives, or the story behind the product and brand.

The first thing a customer will experience is the product packaging. From the cardboard container to the bottle itself, this first look will form their initial impressions of your product.

If you manage to capture their interest, then they’ll be able to experience your perfume and all it has to offer. But that crucial first step of getting them interested, engaged, and on-board lies in your branding and packaging.

The Psychology of Product Packaging

Product packaging works on several different levels of psychology to captivate customers. From how they respond to it emotionally, to the look, feel, and convenience of it, all these factors play a role in a customer’s ultimate purchasing decision.

Here are some of the key aspects that involve the psychology of product packaging:

  • Visual appeal
  • Functional design
  • Authenticity
  • Storytelling
  • Emotional triggers

Focusing on only one of these elements could alienate some prospective customers, so it is best to consider how each plays a role in your product packaging.

Key Elements of Successful Perfume Packaging

Box

The boxes we’re talking about here are the ones your products come packaged in when shipped in bulk. These boxes are used to house your perfumes as they sit on the store shelf in their own individual packaging.

The outer box is often disregarded as it isn’t something the customer will take home, but it is crucial to ensure it is aligned with the rest of your brand and packaging to ensure a cohesive experience.

Sleeve

The sleeve or individual bottle box can offer more focused and specific branding, allowing you to focus on things the end user will care about such as quality, sustainability, and product details.

Bottle

Most importantly, the bottle you choose will create the biggest impact. Perfumes are known to come in a variety of interesting and dynamic bottle shapes that captivate and intrigue customers, showing off the prestige of your brand at a glance.

At Fillcon, we can fill bottles of all shapes and sizes, so no matter the shape you go with we can help you fulfil your orders.

Designing Packaging Aligned with Brand Identity

Brand identity is how you stand apart from your competitors, and is reflected in the relationships you build with your customers. Whether you’re a hip indie fragrance just breaking into the market, or an established scent that’s become an icon, you need to be sure that your packaging reflects your angle, target audience, and product.

To align your packaging with your brand, there are a few things you need to consider:

  1. Try to utilise your brand colours in your packaging, filling the rest of the space with neutral tones or whitespace.
  2. Are there any key symbols associated with your brand? Consider using these in your packaging, whether as minor details like imprints on boxes or more major features like bottle shapes.
  3. If your brand is themed around a certain motif, try to reflect this in your packaging to create a sense of continuity.
  4. Depending on your company values such as sustainability or customer care, you should consider these factors in your packaging.
  5. Ensure other aspects of your packaging are aligned with your brand guidelines such as TOV and logo usage to ensure a cohesive identity across all touchpoints.

Creating Brand Awareness with Free Samples

Another great way to build awareness of your products and brand is through free samples. They provide easy access to your customers without them having to put forward any upfront cost. You can also include branding in your free sample packaging, offering the same benefits as the full product packaging above while giving your customers a taste of what you have to offer.

The Beginners Guide for Selling Cosmetics Internationally

The Beginners Guide for Selling Cosmetics Internationally

From skincare products to makeup, the whole cosmetics market has become more and more competitive over the past decade. Whether you’re planning on launching your cosmetics brand or planning on going international, there’s a few things you need to consider so to give yourself an edge over other brands.

At Fillcon, we are one of the UK’s leading cosmetic fillers, we’ve put together a guide of top tips and tricks that can help you reach a wider audience with your cosmetics brand including everything from product manufacturing to marketing.

Product Sourcing and Cosmetic Sampling

The first and most important consideration for selling cosmetics internationally is making sure you have amazing products that your customers will want to buy.

Here at Fillcon, we provide expert solutions for the filling of your cosmetic sachets, tubes, spouted pouches and bottles.

Our cosmetic liquid filling machines allow us to fill a variety of cosmetic products, not limited to:

  • Cosmetic Cream
  • Cosmetic Oil
  • Face and Body Moisturisers
  • Shampoos and Conditioners
  • Bath and Shower Products
  • Sun Cream

Cosmetic samples are an extremely effective promotional tool for any cosmetics business because the best way to attract new customers is to let them try a product before they buy it. Cosmetic samples are also an important part of an international strategy and creating brand resonance.

Ensure your packaging is hardwearing

Choosing the right packaging is important, packages shipped internationally will need to be able to withstand bumps and bangs as they move from one location to another.

Glass is heavy, fragile, and expensive, choosing this for your samples can mean the shipping costs will be more expensive and it is the most likely to break in transit. Opting for stronger or flexible materials will be more effective in the long run.

Choosing plastic is a better option than glass, it is versatile and can mould into limitless shapes. Plastic is also stronger than glass meaning it is more likely to withstand drops and bangs.

Another brilliant alternative is sachets. This lightweight, recyclable and durable packaging is brilliant for sending samples internationally. Sachets are flexible meaning they won’t be damaged with the movement of shipping. Once manufactured, sachets can be transported in much smaller containers than glass or plastic counterparts; this will help to reduce the shipping costs as well as reducing the environmental impact and Carbon Footprint.

At Fillcon we can aid in the manufacturing and filling of cosmetic sachets customised to your branded with the support of our partners. We offer a range of sachet solutions to meet your needs:

  • Fill doses from 0.5ml – 50 ml
  • Single sachets, to duo options; ideal for shampoo & conditioner
  • Pet/Alu/Pe & Mono Material PP available
  • Minimum order quantities from 10,000

See how Fillcon can help you >

International Regulations

International considerations can be expensive to implement and will increase the cost of production, therefore it is important to do your market research carefully as doing it wrong can be costly and lead to wasted packaging. There are a number of international considerations business should explore before shipping internationally, these include but are not limited to:

Testing and Standards

Different countries will have different quality and testing standards for cosmetics. It is important to research the market you are planning on selling to and ensuring your products comply with these regulations. Research the local regulatory bodies and ensure your products meet their standards.

A good place to start is the ICCR – the International Co-operation on Cosmetic Regulations.

Translations

While English is spoken widely around the world, you need to consider international translations on your packaging, from the list of ingredients to the directions of use to make sure your products are accessible to everyone.

You will also need to consider changing the dose measurement depending on where you are shipping. Most international locations work in metric measurements ‘ml/ltr’ however, some countries like the US, still work with imperial measurements meaning the measurements will have to be changed to ‘oz’.

Import Quotas and Taxes

An often-overlooked rule in international shipping is import taxes and quotas. These increase the price consumers pay for the products when they are imported. The average import tax for luxury products like cosmetics is 20%. This could discourage users from buying.

Working with an experience logistics expert or freight forwarder can help navigate these costs.

Working with a Trusted Sampling Partner

Partnering with the right cosmetic filling partner is important to ensure the highest quality products. There are numerous benefits of working with a trusted sampling supplier like Fillcon.

  • Shorter Lead Times
  • Better Quality Control
  • Excellent Communication

You can also rely on us to ensure your cosmetic samples adhere to sustainable practises. Here are some of the environmental benefits of using Fillcon and our materials:

  • Lower environmental impact than many other options
  • Can be recycled and reused (PP or PE material)
  • PCR (post-consumer recycled) & PIR (post-industrial recycled) material for tubes
  • COSMOS Organic and Natural Certified
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • ISO9001-2015 compliant

Digital Marketing and E-commerce

Once you have a great product and are happy with the product design, the next stage will be to develop a strategy for your digital marketing.

In order to reach to reach your international target market, you’ll need an attractive and user-friendly e-commerce website. Think about how you want your website to look and consider using the help of a web designer if this is within your budget. There are a lot of platforms that allow you build websites and manage them yourself.

You should also think about how you’ll want to bring in new customers. You can either pay for traffic to your website through digital advertisements or optimise your website for search engine traffic through SEO. You can also make use of affiliate marketing schemes and other tactics like email marketing that will draw in traffic to your website.

Cosmetics brands usually adopt very specific approaches to social media marketing. A common theme is self-empowerment and the pursuit of perfection, but some also heavily focus on key features of their products.

If your product has a Unique Selling Point (USP) then you should take the opportunity to make it a central theme and communicate the value for your products as much as possible

How to reach more customers with your Cosmetics Business

There are a lot of different promotional techniques that can really help elevate your cosmetic brand. Whether it’s cosmetic samples to social media tactics, every aspect of your Marketing strategy needs to be integrated in order to provide an effective and unified approach to the goal or developing an international audience.

Innovative Sachet Filling Techniques for Enhanced Consumer Experience

Innovative Sachet Filling Techniques for Enhanced Consumer Experience

Your sachets aren’t just sachets – they’re the result of countless hours of design, product manufacturing, filling, packing, and preparing, all to end up in the hands of the customer. Ensuring you’re getting quality at every step of this long chain can be tough, but at Fillcon, that’s exactly what we offer.

In this article, we’ll discuss how sachet filling techniques, and sachets themselves, have changed over time, and how you can utilise these innovations to benefit both you and your customers.

Need a cosmetic sampling solution fast? Contact us today.

The Evolution of Sachets

In the past, sachets have been a sore spot for businesses and consumers. When improperly filled and packed, they result in weak seals, leakage, and waste. There’s nothing like a soggy magazine from a spoiled sample to put a potential customer off your product completely.

Over the years, we and others have developed more resistant, flexible, durable, and affordable sachet materials. They can withstand large amounts of pressure (we know, we test every batch!), and offer a reliable way to deliver cosmetics without worry.

Made from recyclable plastics that are lightweight, cheap and easy to store and transport, and better for the environment by the kilo than rigid options, our sachets are the perfect option for (nearly) any product.

The way we fill them has also improved, utilising state of the art machinery to precisely fill, pack, and crimp your products so they’re ready for delivery.

Discover our innovative sachet manufacturing and filling process >

Resealable Sachets: A Game Changer for Convenience

Not all sachets are designed to be single-use or for samples. Sometimes, they can be used for your main product – offering greater flexibility and lower plastic requirements than many other options.

However, when your customer uses a product, they expect to be able to use it again later, rather than all in one go. The flexibility of sachets acts as a double-edged sword here, making it hard to store them without the proper setup.

That’s where resealable sachets come in, offering customers the ability to close the sachet again after opening. This offers much more convenience for your customers and longevity for your products, making sure your products don’t become more painful than they’re worth.

Multi-Layer Sachets: Keeping Your Products Protected

Multi-layer sachets are made up of multiple different materials, each with their own specific purpose. For example, the outside layer might be a highly printable plastic that makes it easy to show your brand identity. Meanwhile, the inside layer will be a robust-yet-flexible aluminium that secures your product and keeps it sanitary.

Some of the key benefits of multi-layer sachets include:

  • Visual customisation
  • Protection
  • Durability
  • Modifiable properties to suit your product requirements

However, these do come with the caveat of multi-layer sachets being harder to recycle than single-material solutions, so it’s worth weighing up the options before committing to a decision.

Integrating Digital Engagement in Sachet Packaging

The best part of sachets is how much freedom you have. When used as part of a digital marketing campaign, they’re an incredibly easy to deliver option that makes for a great incentive or marketing material.

One way you can do this is by promoting and incorporating digital engagement. QR codes or other interactive packaging elements are a great way to do this, easily letting your customers gain access to some exclusive benefits.

You could redirect them to your social media, have them enter a prize draw, or ask for their feedback in return for a coupon. The ball is in your court here, and the options are endless – all facilitated by robust, desirable sachets.

Follow our guide on using QR codes to build interactive customer experiences >

How Advanced Sachet Filling Improves Brand Perceptions

Using our advanced sachet filling, testing, and packing solution is a great way to improve how people perceive your brand and products. Not because they know us, but because they know quality when they see it.

Substandard sachets that are underfilled, under protected, or poorly packaged can be an instant turn off for many customers. They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but with cosmetics, beauty is everything.

Our sachet filling promises a smooth, reliable process, filled to your standards and packaged with extreme care and precision. Our individual line numbers let us pin down problems with ease, and we can advise you on whether a fill-to-full solution could be better for your needs.

Cosmetic Sample Sachets for Maximum Impact

Alongside the full-size sachets, you can make an even greater impact on your customers with free samples. At Fillcon, we manufacture and fill quality sample sachets that help you get your message, brand, and products out to the most people.

This way, you can ensure your customers know what you’re all about before committing to a full purchase – alongside a whole other host of psychological benefits that lead them to buy from your brand.

How to Start and Grow a Successful Cosmetic Subscription Business

How to Start and Grow a Successful Cosmetic Subscription Business

One of the most exciting ways to get into the beauty business nowadays is to start a subscription service for cosmetics. Subscription boxes have emerged as a potent tool for beauty brands to engage directly with their audience, as consumers are drawn to convenience, customisation, and the excitement of discovery. 73% of online shoppers currently subscribe to at least one service, up from 65% the year before, according to Mintel’s 2024 report.

It’s not just a passing trend. Subscription models are altering how customers interact with brands in a variety of sectors, including wellness and beauty, as the American Library Association points out. A successful subscription service for cosmetics provides more than just goods; it fosters customer loyalty, generates recurring income, and provides a direct line of communication to your most passionate customers.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to start, manage, and grow a successful cosmetic subscription business.

Developing a Novel Subscription Business Model for Cosmetics

A distinct value proposition is essential for your cosmetic subscription business to succeed in a crowded market. What distinguishes your subscription box? Do you sell high-quality, environmentally friendly goods? Do your boxes have a niche focus, such as cruelty-free or independent beauty brands, or are they personalised? The secret to drawing attention and maintaining your subscribers’ interest month after month is differentiation.

Find out more about the best e-commerce packaging for beauty and cosmetics brands >

Source Quality Products

To be worth a subscription fee, consumers will want their subscription box to include modern, popular, or even ‘cult’ cosmetics that are high quality. It is, therefore, the cosmetics subscription business’ job to source, research, test and deliver sought-after products for a reasonable price.

Products can be sourced from wholesalers, Etsy, retail stores, from cosmetics brands directly, or through networking. The expense of sourcing the products is reflected in the subscription cost so ideally you want to drive down the cost of sourcing – bulk buying and brand partnerships can help.

Setting a Price for Your Cosmetic Subscription Company

Setting the appropriate price is the next stage in starting a cosmetic subscription business after you’ve made decisions about your product selection, packaging, and delivery method. Your pricing strategy can make or break your business; if it’s too low, you run the risk of losing money; if it’s too high, you risk alienating potential subscribers.

Anything between £10 to £100 is reasonable for a monthly or quarterly subscription, depending on the number, value and size of the product inside. High-end subscription boxes can easily be in triple figures, but they appeal to a smaller market, whereas cheaper boxes with sample size products can attract the vast majority of the market.

Consumers will know that the more regular the deliveries, the larger the size and the more valuable the products, the more the subscription will be. As long as the subscription is cheaper than individually buying all the items and that consumers are getting value for their money, the subscription fee is justified.

Promoting Your Subscription Cosmetics Company

Even if your box is exquisitely curated, it won’t sell very well without effective marketing. You must create buzz right away if you want your subscription service for cosmetics to succeed. Sharing box previews or limited prototypes can create anticipation and excitement, and pre-launch marketing can be revolutionary.

A website is key to the marketing of cosmetics subscriptions. Not only do they show off the boxes and their contents, but they offer platforms for FAQs and even subscription management for great customer service.

Social media is another great marketing tool which can be used to share content, build excitement and show off highlights of each box. As well as social media, magazines, beauty editorials and other cosmetics-related marketing tools can be a great way to get your cosmetic subscription in front of target markets.

Get more ideas with our blog on beauty marketing inspiration >

Once the subscription is up and running, email campaigns can be an effective way to keep existing customers engaged and deter them from unsubscribing. Discount codes, sneak peeks and competitions are a great way to reenergise existing customer bases.

Include Samples

Cosmetics subscriptions are often great value for money and introduce consumers to new products, so freebies are always welcome! Customers get more for their subscription fee and get to try something else without spending a penny extra.

You can get advice and begin creating your cosmetic samples with Fillcon, specialists in cosmetic sampling solutions.

Persuading cosmetics brands to provide sample products for your cosmetic subscription should be pretty simple; you are handling the logistics and shipping, all they have to do is give a small amount of stock. Also, cosmetic subscribers, evidently, are open to trying new products and have little brand loyalty, making them the ideal target market for any cosmetic brands!

Streamline Fulfilment

Subscriptions are regular instalments; therefore, its critical shipments are regimented, and deliveries are made within the promised window. Whether you pack subscription boxes yourself or outsource fulfilment, the process should be regimented and smooth to ensure shipments are made on time. Be transparent and keep customers in the loop with website updates and social media posts so they know when to expect it – popular updates include emails, which announce when the boxing is taking place, when they have been shipped, and how long customers should wait for it.

Lots of fulfilment and courier platforms allow for you and your customers to track deliveries with live data. This is a great aspect for customer service as it allows you to accurately answer delivery questions if a concerned customer gets in touch.

Ship Your Subscriptions

Your business is now good to go! Source your cosmetics and packaging, fill the boxes, ship them, and get great feedback. Keep up social media engagement and customer communication to retain customers and market to new ones. But don’t get complacent, the key to a successful cosmetic subscription business is consistency and prolonged effort. Keep looking for brand partnerships, new influencer opportunism and great new products to continue growing your successful cosmetics subscription business.

5 Steps to Start Your Perfume Business

Embarking on the journey of creating your own perfume business is both exciting and challenging. With the global fragrance market continually expanding, there’s ample opportunity for new and innovative brands to make their mark.

At Fillcon, we offer cosmetic sampling solutions and perfume filling with years of experience in the beauty industry. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the essential steps to establish a successful perfume business, from conceptualisation to distribution.

Starting a perfume business requires a blend of creativity, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the fragrance industry. It’s crucial to conduct thorough market research to identify your target audience and understand current trends. This foundation will inform your brand identity, product offerings, and marketing strategies.

Step 1: Defining Your Brand Identity and Scent Concept

Your brand identity is the essence of your perfume business. It encompasses your brand’s mission, values, and the unique story you want to tell. Consider the following elements:

  • Target Audience: Determine who your ideal customers are. Are they young professionals, luxury seekers, or environmentally conscious consumers?
  • Brand Story: Craft a compelling narrative that resonates with your audience. This could be inspired by personal experiences, cultural heritage or a specific theme.
  • Scent Profile: Develop a signature scent that embodies your brand’s identity. Collaborate with experienced perfumers to create unique and memorable fragrances.

Step 2: Sourcing Quality Ingredients and Packaging Options

The quality of your perfume hinges on the ingredients and packaging you choose. Prioritise sourcing high-quality, ethically sourced raw materials to ensure a superior product. Equally important is selecting packaging that reflects your brand’s aesthetic and values.

Here are some key packaging considerations:

  • Design: Opt for designs that align with your brand identity and appeal to your target audience.
  • Functionality: Ensure packaging is user-friendly and preserves the fragrance’s integrity.
  • Sustainability: With increasing consumer awareness, eco-friendly packaging can enhance your brand’s appeal.

At Fillcon, we specialise in providing cosmetic sampling solutions, including the manufacturing of eco-friendly pouches and sourcing of tubes and bottles. Our packaging options are designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable products.

Step 3: Navigating Legal and Regulatory Requirements

Compliance with legal and regulatory standards is another important aspect in the cosmetics industry. In the UK, cosmetic products must adhere to the cosmetic products enforcement regulations, which include:

  • Safety Assessments: Conduct thorough safety assessments to ensure your products are safe for consumer use.
  • Product Registration: Notify the relevant authorities about your products before they enter the market.
  • Labelling: Ensure labels include necessary information such as ingredient lists, usage instructions, and any warnings.

Understanding and adhering to these regulations will help you avoid legal complications and build consumer trust. For more information, we suggest referring to the Gov.uk website or explore our guide on cosmetic sampling regulations in the UK.

Step 4: Finding and Collaborating with a Production Partner

Partnering with the right production company is crucial for bringing your perfume to market efficiently and effectively. Consider the following when selecting a production partner:

  • Experience: Choose a partner with a proven track record in the fragrance industry.
  • Capabilities: Ensure they can handle your production volume and offer services like filling and packaging.
  • Quality Control: Verify that they have stringent quality control measures in place to maintain product consistency.

We offer comprehensive services, specialising in the health and beauty market. We manufacture and fill sachets, tubes, and bottles, providing flexible packaging solutions for liquids, creams, gels, and powders. Our commitment to quality and service ensures your products meet the highest standards.

Step 5: Marketing and Distributing Your Perfume Products

Effective marketing and distribution strategies are essential to reach your target audience and drive sales. Consider the following approaches:

  • Branding: As mentioned earlier, defining your brand identity is the first essential step. The next step is to incorporate your aesthetic into every aspect of your brand and marketing. Develop cohesive branding elements, including logos, colour schemes and messaging that reflect your brand identity.
  • Digital Marketing: Utilise social media platforms, email marketing, and a professional website to engage with potential customers. If you have no previous marketing knowledge you might want to take advantage of the variety of guides online to define your marketing strategy. We also encourage you to take a short Digital Marketing Course online or refer to a specialist.
  • Sampling Campaigns: Offer samples to allow consumers to experience your fragrance before committing to a full purchase. This can be achieved through in-store promotions, online requests, or inclusion in subscription boxes.
  • Distribution Channels: Decide whether to sell directly to consumers via your website, in store or partner with retailers.

6 Benefits of Using Cosmetic Tube Packaging

6 Benefits of Using Cosmetic Tube Packaging

Cosmetic tube packaging is a game-changer for beauty brands. If you want packaging that protects your product, promotes your brand and is easy for customers to use, tubes are for you. From gels and creams, to lotions and scrubs, tubes are the ultimate cosmetic packaging solution.

According to a report released by Fortune Business Insights, the global personal care packaging market is expected to grow significantly during the next few years. The market, valued at $42.26 billion in 2023, is expected to rise to $83.37 billion by 2032. Of all the uses of tubes, cosmetic and personal care applications represent the largest segment of the global tube packaging industry. Any cosmetics companies not on the tube bandwagon is, quite frankly, behind.

Why Brands Choose Cosmetic Tube Packaging

1. Lower Price

There is no denying cost is important in any business decisions. Tubes are one of the most cost-effective packaging solutions to choose.

Due to the ease and speed at which tubes can be produced on a large scale, manufacturing costs are relatively low compared to other packaging materials and methods.

This also means tubes are useful for reactive brands, constantly bringing out new products in line with marketing trends. Because tube packaging can be produced quickly, relatively cheaply and in large quantities, new products can hit the shelf fast.

2. Packaging Versatility

One of the most notable benefits of using tubes for cosmetic packaging is their versatility.

Choose from extruded plastic squeeze tubes, the most general tube type used for a variety of industries including cosmetics; laminated squeeze tubes, most renowned for toothpaste; and aluminium metal squeeze tubes, impenetrable all-aluminium tubes mainly used for paints, adhesives, and foods. Find what works best for your product and brand.

Learn more about choosing the best material for cosmetic product packaging >

Along with choice of tube type, there are also multiple lids choices. For example, there are flip lids or screw top lids. Tubes can also be adapted with a variety of applicator options, such as brush tip for lip gloss or titanium roller ball for serum. You can also apply a secondary lining to further prevent product contamination before reaching the consumer.

Tubes can be branded with ease, ensuring your products stand out and your brand gets remembered. With all-round decoration options, from tube texture to cap colour, tubes provide the ultimate branding opportunity.

3. Eco-friendly

Tubes allow you to make the most out of your product. From being able to fill precise amounts to consumers squeezing out every last drop, tubes help to reduce waste product.

During the manufacturing stage any tube packaging not used can be reused or recycled. Following sale, increased focus on PCR results in more environmentally friendly packaging. Raw materials used to make tube packaging has become more eco-friendly, and this is something brands love to shout about.

In NIQ’s 2023 CPG Sustainability Report, 92 percent of consumers say that sustainability is important to them in choosing a brand today. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, cosmetics companies are keen to promote any environmentally friendly initiates they have, including packaging. With many companies advocating their environmental promises in advertising and branding, any cosmetic company not doing the same is missing out.

4. Product Protection

With secure lids and sturdy exteriors, cosmetic tube packaging provide effective protection for products against possible contaminants, from the air, light exposure and users. This is a huge benefit to both consumers wanting to use the product for a long time, and cosmetics companies wanting to maintain a good reputation.

The simple squeeze dispersion method means users do not come into contact with excess product within the packaging, like they would in a tin, for example. This helps to reduce any contamination or degradation. Where product in a jar gets exposed to the air many times as it is opened, tubes reduce exposure and have only a small opening, preventing contamination. Similarly, the opaque exterior of tubes protects product from light degradation, unlike glass cosmetic packaging.

5. Transportation

As tubes are less bulky than other packaging types, such as bottles, they can be packed more efficiently. Tubes, and especially plastic tubes, are lightweight in comparison to other packaging materials and therefore present the benefit of being relatively cheap to transport too.

An additional benefit to plastic or aluminium tubes is their sturdiness, less prone to damage. Where glass cosmetic packaging may smash, or aluminium tins may dent, tubes remain intact.

6. Usability

Tubes are incredibly easy for consumers to use, requiring only one hand and minimal effort.

Tube dispersing process ensures the exact amount of product wanted is distributed. Provided the tube has the perfect lid to match the product, users can get the amount they want, without creating waste.

Users can also get to the bottom of the product and not leave a single drop. This is a huge benefit of tubes, as consumers want to make the most of the product they have spent money on.

Bonus Benefit – Transferability

We promised 6 benefits, but it turns out tubes make such great cosmetic packaging, we just had to include one more!

The Difference Between a Sachet and a Pouch

The Difference Between a Sachet and a Pouch

Choosing between sachet and pouch packaging is crucial in the beauty product world. It makes the product look appealing, affects how easy it is to use, and makes customers happy. This guide examines the differences between the two types of packaging. We will find out what sachets and pouches are, point out how they differ, and discuss which type is better for different beauty products.

Welcome to Fillcon! Since 2011, we’ve taken a unique path in the cosmetic industry. We prioritise excellent sachet quality and unmatched customer service over sheer volume. We’re passionate about our work and take pride in each sachet we produce, always including a ‘HUGE thank you’ with every order to show our appreciation. Sachets might seem simple. But they show our dedication to excellence and customer satisfaction. If quality and care resonate with you, contact us. Let’s create something great together!

What is a Sachet?

A sachet is a tiny packet used just once, which makes using the product easy and accurate to measure. Here’s why sachets are a great choice if you want to give out samples:

  • Single-Use Convenience: Sachets are perfect for various customers who want to try a product without buying a full size. They are small, easy to give away, and great for handing out at events or publishing magazines.
  • Cost-Effective Production: Sachets are usually cheaper because they use less material and have a simple design. This makes them an excellent option for cosmetic companies. They can advertise new or pricey products without spending much on the packaging.
  • Design and Material Flexibility: Sachets are usually made from several layers, including aluminium and plastic. This design helps them look nicer. They often have bright pictures and transparent information about what’s inside, essential for advertising and obeying the law.
  • Limitations in Functionality: Although sachets have many benefits, they also have downsides. They cannot be resealed, which means they are unsuitable for products that need to be used more than once. Once a sachet is opened, the entire product must be used, or it might go to waste.

Sachets are especially favoured for face masks, moisturisers, or serums. One use gives the customer enough product to see if it works well.

What is a Pouch?

Pouches hold more than sachets and are designed with features that make the product last longer. Here’s why they are becoming more popular in different areas, including cosmetics:

  • Enhanced Durability and Protection: Pouches have several layers protecting the product from light, air, and moisture. This is crucial for keeping the active ingredients in skincare products effective.
  • Resealable and Reusable: Many pouches have zip locks or other resealable closures. This allows consumers to use the product more than once, keeping it fresh. This is very helpful and also better for the environment.
  • Versatility in Size and Function: Pouches come in many sizes, from small to large, and can be made to fit different products. They have spouts for liquids. This feature allows them to stand on shelves. It also makes them more appealing and helpful to buyers.
  • Sustainability Options: As more people learn about the environment, many companies use eco-friendly materials for their pouches. This change is better for the planet and appeals to consumers who care about the environment.

Pouches are perfect for products used often, such as hair care products, body lotions, and large creams.

Critical Differences Between Sachet and Pouch Packaging

Key factors in evaluating sachets and pouches are their use and cost. Also essential are the materials used and their impact on the environment.

  • Intended Usage: Sachets are meant for one-time use, while pouches are made for multiple uses. This significant difference affects the number of products distributed and whether consumers decide to buy them.
  • Cost Implications and Material Use: Sachets are cheaper to produce. But, they often use materials that can’t be recycled because they mix different materials. Pouches may cost more initially, but they generally use better materials for the environment. Despite their higher price, their unique features make them good value.
  • Consumer Convenience and Experience: Pouches usually provide a better experience for products used repeatedly because they can be resealed. Sachets can’t be reused much. But, they are convenient for travel and trying new products.

Suitability for Cosmetic Products

You need to pick the proper packaging for cosmetic products. To do this, you must know the product’s features and how people will use it.

  • Sachets are best for products where cleanliness and exact amounts are essential, like peel-off masks or high-strength serums.
  • Pouches are suitable for products used in more significant amounts, such as shampoos, conditioners, or body washes. They are instrumental in sizes for families or travel.

Sachet & Pouch Filling with Fillcon

You choose between sachet and pouch packaging by knowing how the product will be used. It would be best to consider who will use it and what the brand stands for. Sachets are suitable for testing and single uses. Pouches are more sustainable and better for reuse. Knowing these differences helps cosmetic companies create better packaging. It increases the brand’s value and meets customer needs. As the market changes, brands must keep up with new packaging developments. They must do so to stay competitive.

At Fillcon, we know that proper packaging makes a big difference. You might be launching a new product or improving an existing one. Our top-quality sachets are crafted to meet your needs. We’re here to help with solutions that match your brand’s uniqueness. Ready to elevate your product’s appeal? Contact us today. Let’s collaborate to create standout packaging that truly delivers!

Everything You Need to Know About Sachet Filling

Sachets are popular packaging solutions for all range of industries, businesses, and products. Cost-effective and convenient, sachets are ideal for a wide variety of products, from cosmetics and beauty, to food and household goods.

In this guide, our sachet filling experts at Fillcon explain all you need to know about sachet filling, including what products should go in sachets, the benefits of sachets, and how exactly they are filled.

What Products Suit Sachet Packaging?

The most common products in sachets are liquids with a thicker consistency such as creams, gels, and sauces, as well as powders like salt, sugar, grains, and spices. Small solids may also be in sachets, such as beans.

Sachets are extremely effective at keeping products airtight and protected from contaminants, however the physical protection offered is minimal, therefore any products within sachets should not be breakable or easily damaged with knocks.

Tissues can also be put in sachet packaging, wet or dry, such as antibacterial wipes. You can find out more about tissue sachet packaging here.

Benefits of Sachet Packaging

Sachets offer many benefits as packaging solutions. Below are some of the top benefits of sachet packaging.

Protection

Due to the airtight, impenetrable makeup of sachets, they are extremely successful at keeping products safe from contaminants. This is especially critical for perishable or short-life products like food or cosmetic creams. As sachets are usually one-use, there is no risk that the product is opened then continually contaminated when reopened as with other packaging types.

Convenient

Sachets are easy to open, usually via tearing the top or special tab, when compared to jars or bottles that can be troublesome or inaccessible for consumers. The small, limited-use nature of sachets also make them convenient as they can be stored in cars, bags or packs for use whenever needed.

Range of sizes

There are a range of sachet sizes available to suit the fill dose, from 45mm x 45mm square to 100mm x 180mm. Fillcon can recommend a sachet size to suit the product viscosity and dose size.  Small sample size sachets are useful for free giveaways or larger sachets can be used for retail purposes.  Sachets are especially useful for portion control or as single-use application.

Flexible packaging

Sachets are popular packaging types for their sizes, shape and flexibility, meaning they take up little space and can be easily packed, unlike boxes for example. Sachets can be easily packed within other packaging, or commonly magazines, without bulking or adding weight.

Shipping

The light weight and flexibility of sachets make them cost-effective to ship thousands with minimal cost and space requirements.

Materials

There are various materials to choose from for sachet packaging. Recyclable materials are available that can create environmentally friendly packaging. Often sachets carrying liquids or other products may be Aluminium lined for protection and to prevent seepage, which can affect the recyclability of certain sachets.

How Are Sachets Filled?

Sachets are filled as they are formed using specialised vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machines or horizontal form fill seal (HFFS) machines. A roll of film is fed into the machine and formed into sachets as well as being filled in one streamlined process.

The process is; the film is formed and sealed at one end or edge, then the pre-weighed/measured product is dropped in, then the rest of the sachet edge is sealed and cut from the following sachet.

Check out the facilities page on our website to see a video of the sachet filling/forming process and learn more about our capabilities at our advanced site.

Sachet Filling Considerations

Once you have a brand and product, and you’ve decided on sachet packaging, there are still a few things to consider.

Sanitation

Sanitation and cleanliness is vital to successful sachet filling, and not just for edible items. Filling machines should be deep cleaned, especially between products, and entire facilities should be clean environments to ensure no contamination or product spoilage. Before the sachet is closed and airtight, it is critical nothing else comes in contact with the product.

Precision

All sachets should be uniform and consistent, filled precisely with equal amounts. Automation via machines helps to ensure the right amount is dispersed each time, importantly without spillages or waste.

Speed

The automation of sachet filling through machines make the entire process speedy and cost effective. In fact, some sachet fillers, like Fillcon, can produce tens of thousands of filled sachets a day.  Once the machine is set up with sachet foil and liquid product our engineers are constantly quality checking the finished sachets.

Design

Sachets should be informative and attractive through the printing of artwork. At the very minimum, the product name and brand should be visible, as well as ingredients lists, key information, and use-by dates. Although many sachets are small, certain information is legally required and/or useful for consumers.

We manufacture, supply and fill sachets for a wide range of applications, most notably cosmetic sampling solutions. How to Start a Perfume Subscription Business

In recent years, the perfume subscription business model has surged, captivating fragrance enthusiasts and casual consumers alike. This growing trend can be attributed to several factors.

Firstly, perfume subscriptions provide a convenient and personalised way for individuals to explore a variety of scents without committing to full-sized bottles, fostering anticipation with surprise selections each month.

Complementing this is the curated assortment, often featuring niche and designer brands, exposing subscribers to a diverse palette.

The subscription model also aligns with the growing consumer preference for online shopping, luxury goods, and hassle-free, door-to-door delivery.

If you find yourself here after sniffing out a golden opportunity for business success and needing a little extra help, then you’re in luck. In this blog, we’ve outlined a comprehensive checklist of the steps you need to take to start a successful perfume subscription business.

#1 — Define Your Niche and Target Audience:

Start by identifying your unique selling proposition and the specific demographic you want to cater to. Understanding your niche and audience is fundamental to tailoring your perfume subscription service.

Our Tips:

Market Research: Before choosing your niche and target audience, conduct comprehensive market research to identify gaps in the perfume subscription market. Understand the preferences, needs, and behaviours of potential customers. Look for areas where existing perfume subscription services may be lacking or where you can offer a unique twist.

Identify Your Passion or Expertise: Consider your own interests and expertise when defining your niche. For instance, perhaps you have a passion for sustainable or niche fragrances. Your enthusiasm will resonate with customers, and your business will feel more authentic.

#2 — Create a Business Plan:

Next, you’ll need to develop a comprehensive business plan that outlines your mission, vision, and goals. Specify your budget, anticipated expenses, and revenue projections. A well-structured plan serves as a roadmap, guiding your decision-making process and providing a clear direction for the growth of your perfume subscription business.

Our Tips:

Research Fragrance Trends and Seasonal Cycles: In the fragrance industry, consumer preferences can often vary based on trends and seasons. Understanding the cyclical demand for different fragrances will help you plan your subscription offerings and marketing strategies accordingly.

#3 — Choose Quality Fragrance Partnerships:

Establish partnerships with reputable perfume brands to ensure the quality and variety of scents you offer. Negotiate deals that align with your business model and customer preferences.

Our Tips:

Forge Strategic Partnerships: Ensure that the perfume brands align with your target audience and strive to bring diversity to your scent offerings. Negotiate terms that mutually benefit both parties and enhance the exclusivity of your subscription service.

Consider Customisation Options: Explore customisation options with your fragrance partners to allow subscribers to tailor their scent preferences. Whether it’s selecting specific fragrance notes or choosing between different styles (e.g., floral, woody, oriental), offering customisation enhances the personalisation aspect of your service, making it more appealing to a diverse audience.

#4 — Set Subscription Tiers and Pricing:

Determine different subscription levels based on the number of perfumes, frequency of delivery, and any additional perks. Pricing should be competitive yet reflective of the value you provide.

Our Tips:

Tailor Subscription Tiers to Customer Lifestyles: When setting up subscription levels and pricing, consider the diverse lifestyles of your target audience. Some customers may prefer a monthly delivery, while others may opt for a quarterly subscription.

Incorporate Limited Edition or Seasonal Themes: Enhance the appeal of your subscription service by periodically introducing limited-edition or seasonal themes. For example, offer a summer collection featuring light and refreshing scents or a holiday-themed box with warm and festive fragrances. This approach keeps your offerings exciting and also encourages subscribers to stay engaged throughout the year.

#5 — Invest in a User-Friendly Website:

Develop a visually appealing and intuitive website where customers can easily browse, subscribe, and manage their accounts. A seamless online experience is crucial for customer satisfaction.

Our Tips:

Integrate Secure Payment Options: Provide customers with trustworthy and secure payment gateways to build trust and ensure smooth transactions. Security is paramount when dealing with online transactions.

Implement a Robust Content Management System (CMS): Choose a reliable CMS for your website that allows easy updates and additions. This is especially important in the dynamic world of fragrance where new scents and collaborations can be regularly introduced.

#6 — Find a High-Quality Sampling Solutions Partner

When launching a perfume subscription service, the importance of the unboxing experience cannot be overstated. This is where your choice of a sampling solutions partner comes into play. Seek out a reliable and innovative partner that specialises in providing high-quality sampling solutions. After all, the sampling experience sets the tone for your subscribers’ journey, offering them a tactile and sensory introduction to the fragrances in each delivery.

Our Tips:

Design Engaging Packaging: Opt for packaging solutions that reflect the essence of your brand and enhance the unboxing experience. For instance, packaging from Fillcon can be customised to add a touch of luxury and uniqueness to each delivery.

#7 — Implement Effective Marketing Strategies

Utilise social media, influencer collaborations, and targeted online advertising to create awareness about your perfume subscription service. Engage your audience with captivating content and promotions.

Our Tips:

Establish Clear Branding Guidelines: Define your brand identity early on, including your logo, colour scheme, and overall aesthetic. Consistent branding across your website, social media, and packaging builds brand recognition and trust. Communicate your values and what sets your perfume subscription service apart from the competition.

Run Targeted Promotions and Discounts: Implement promotions to reward loyalty and attract new subscribers. Offer discounts for long-term subscriptions, referral programs, or exclusive social media promotions. Well-executed promotions can drive customer acquisition and retention, creating a positive feedback loop for your perfume subscription business.

A Beginner’s Guide to Different Types of Bottles

A Beginner’s Guide to Different Types of Bottles

Bottles are hugely popular packaging types for a whole host of products, from industrial to household goods. They hold significant volumes, keep product protected from external contaminates, can be cost effective to transport and come in a variety of different types.

The Different Types of Bottles

There are a wide range of options when it comes to choosing the perfect bottle packaging, from material and size to closures and recyclability. Here is a breakdown to some of the different types of bottles.

Material

Bottles are most commonly made from plastic or glass, however there are aluminium and stainless-steel bottles, often used for sturdy water bottles. Material choice is a huge consideration and should not be taken lightly, especially as the product can be affected by the chosen material.

Commonly used plastics for bottles include:

  • PET (Polyethlene Terephthalate) – a clear, lightweight plastic often used for drinks bottles.
  • HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) – an opaque, sturdier plastic used for household goods such as food containers or cosmetics, such as shampoo packaging.
  • PVC – a commonly found plastic but one that cannot be recycled. Has strong resistance to oils and acids. Often used for oil bottles and is found in cling film.

The two main types of glass used for bottles include:

  • Soda-lime glass – most commonly found glass used for bottles and other applications such as drinking glasses.
  • Cut glass – a more premium type of glass sensitive to temperature change and damage. Used for decorative items or luxury perfumes.

Shape

Different uses of bottles may lead to specific shapes being used. For example, wine bottles have a distinct bottle shape, however, even within this category, bottle shape varies often according to the type of wine i.e. high shoulder/sloping shoulder/dessert style.

An example of non-standard bottles types are perfume bottles. Often shapes vary greatly to show off elegance or to reflect the brand through unique shapes.

Generally, bottles are rounded but square shaped ones are frequently found too.

Jars, although not bottles, are common for glass packaging, especially for food stuffs or cosmetic creams.

Colour

Bottle colour can be important not only for catching a customer’s eye but also for product preservation. Light, for example, can be damaging to particular products, hence why oils or wine commonly come in dark green packaging. Lots of products, from cosmetics to household, inform users to keep product bottles out of direct sunlight.

Colour can also be significant for branding and keeping your products in theme. For example, a brand founded on simplicity and natural ingredients may use clear packaging to reflect transparency of the brand.

Size

Depending on what the product is, the size of the bottle can vary greatly. Sports drinks usually contain around 500ml but wine bottles have a standard size of 750ml with variations.

In cosmetics, bottles are often either regular size (i.e. 30ml for foundation or 500ml for shampoo) or travel size (usually around 15ml). Travel sized products are a fantastic way to get your product in front of customers or as samples.

Recycling

Recycling is certainly more than a ‘trend’, with consumers looking evermore to use sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging. In fact, of the many packaging trends of 2020, recycling came up multiple times.

Of the plastics used to make bottles listed above, PET and HDPE are widely recyclable, whereas PVC is not. Glass is an infinitely recyclable material that does not degrade with every use; therefore, glass packaging is often popular with environmentally conscious consumers.

Closures

A key element to any product bottle is the closure. Be sure to find the perfect closure that fits your bottle as well as its purpose. There are many different lids/caps available to suit any needs, from screw tops (often for sports drinks) to flip lids (commonly for cosmetics or condiments).
